Stephanie McMahon has been a key figure in WWE for decades now, but she shocked the world this week when she announced that she will be taking a leave of absence from the company to focus on her family.
According to Fightful Select there were plenty around the office who were caught off guard by the announcement. It’s being said that members of WWE’s PR team were made aware, and several members of the media were also made aware, but they held off on revealing the news until Stephanie McMahon made the announcement.
People Fightful spoke to noted that while many were surprised by the announcement it “didn’t come overnight.” The leave of absence had been brewing for a while, but it was reiterated that it has nothing to do with marital issues.
It’s believed that WWE President Nick Khan will be taking on some of Stephanie McMahon’s duties. Much of the team that worked with Stephanie McMahon directly was reportedly dismantled during the layoffs last year. It’s also being said that those who worked directly with Stephanie spoke very highly of her. WWE sources also noted that Stephanie is still part of the WWE family and she’s expected to return to the company.
