CM Punk’s AEW contract was officially terminated last week, and since then the wrestling world has been reacting to the big announcement. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that there were a few wrestlers close to CM Punk who were unhappy about him getting fired such as Andrade, Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler. Both Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler did things to express support for CM Punk on TV, but nothing negative was said about that.
It’s being said that at least three others were upset with the situation. Brody King has not said anything publicly though he’s believed to be one of CM Punk’s biggest supporters.
Many other wrestlers reportedly talked about the backstage atmosphere as if a dark cloud had been lifted. People also talked about how much fun the shows were last weekend and there is said to be a dichotomy of fun backstage with increased morale.
Now that CM Punk is no longer with AEW there’s no telling what the future holds for the former champion. It’s also been reported that Punk pitched the idea of returning to WWE last year when he thought AEW was going to buy out his contract, but those in the company indicated they weren’t interested. However, there’s no word on whether or not WWE has changed their stance on a CM Punk return.
