It’s been an interesting week for AEW as Kazuchika Okada joined the company, Kevin Kelly was fired, and Sammy Guevara was suspended. Fightful Select reported recently that Guevara was suspended due to a situation involving his 2/14 match with Jeff Hardy.
Now the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that Sammy went for a shooting star press and his knee hit Jeff Hardy in the head. Doc Sampson checked on Hardy due to fear of a concussion and Guevara was told to go right for the finish. However, Sammy continued on with the match and used his GTH finisher which ends with Sammy hitting his opponent with a knee to the head.
The feeling was that Sammy Guevara should have ended the match right away if there was fear of a concussion. It was noted that it should not be up to the wrestlers if the doctors believe there could be a concussion.
Another version of the story defended Sammy Guevara claiming that there was a miscommunication between the two parties. It was also noted that Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara were likely to be in the tag team tournament, but now that Sammy is suspended that won’t be happening.
Stay tuned for more updates on Sammy Guevara’s status as they become available.
