Sunday night at WWE Money in the Bank, the first ever women’s Money in the Bank ladder match took place. Carmella, Tamina, Natalya, Charlotte Flair, and Becky Lynch all fought to become the first ever Miss Money in the Bank, but in the end it was Carmella who walked out with the briefcase.
A few weeks ago on SmackDown Live, Lana made her return and she asked Commissioner Shane McMahon to add her to the first ever women’s Money in the Bank ladder match. Shane denied her request, so she attacked the SmackDown Women’s Champion, Naomi, later in the show. Naomi then demanded a match with Lana at Money in the Bank, and Sunday night they faced off with the title on the line.
Lana has been training hard in at the WWE Performance Center for quite some time now, and she’s been refining her skills at NXT live events in Florida. There was some doubt about how well she would be able to perform heading into the match, but she held her own.
Throughout the match, Lana focused on Naomi’s left leg and she tried to break her down slowly.
Naomi tried to put Lana away with the Rear-View, but she kicked out as Naomi continued to sell the leg injury. Back inside the ring Lana hit Naomi with a sit-out spinebuster, but Naomi kicked out.
Carmella’s music then hit and she marched out to the ring with the Money in the Bank briefcase. She teased cashing it in as Lana was distracted but she decided against it.
Lana went for the sit-out spinebuster again, but Naomi locked in a submission and Lana tapped out.
Carmella continued to tease that she might cash in as she put the SmackDown Live women’s division on notice.
