Even though AEW and Starrcast aren’t directly related, Starrcast now seems to go hand in hand with AEW events and the next few days are sure to give fans plenty to talk about.
WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley is one of the guests at Starrcast III, but as we’ve seen over the last few months a few wrestlers with close ties to WWE have pulled out of Starrcast due to their affiliation with World Wrestling Entertainment.
However, Mick Foley told Sporting News that there was no pushback from WWE in regards to his appearance.
“I didn’t experience any pushback (laughs). No one suggested I don’t do it. That doesn’t necessarily mean people are happy about me doing it. I agreed to do it. There was no AEW television deal, and WWE hadn’t scheduled their television show. Plenty of WWE Hall of Famers had done it before me. So I didn’t see it as that big of a deal.”
In a few weeks NXT will go live on USA Network on Wednesday nights, and AEW is set to go head to head with NXT when AEW debuts on TNT in October. Foley shared his thoughts on the two shows going head to head and he noted that the competition could make NXT must-see.
“I definitely think it will bring out the best in both sides. It’s possible that the NXT show will be seen as the must-see show in the WWE lineup because of that head-to-head competition.”
