Throughout the course of his career Mick Foley pushed his body to the limit by competing in some of the most brutal wrestling matches of all time. At the Royal Rumble in 1999 Mick Foley defended his WWE Championship against The Rock in an I Quit match and The Great One absolutely punished Foley throughout the bout.
The Hall of Famer reflected on the title match during his Foley Is Pod podcast and he explained that the idea of the I Quit stipulation was to use the match as a way to show a different side of The Rock.
“It’s inevitable people are going to cheer him. You just kinda try to hold off the inevitable until after WrestleMania. It’s hard to really boo him because he’s such a gifted entertainer, and he makes you smile [and] laugh. But if we could show a vicious, vindictive side [to him], we could hold off the inevitable for at least a few months.”
The Rock made his big return to WWE during Day 1 Raw on Monday, and he teased a potential match with Roman Reigns. Rock has indicated that he’s just getting started so it’s probably safe to say we’ll be seeing more of The Great One in the months to come.
