Last year the stars of AEW and NJPW came together to present the Forbidden Door pay-per-view and the show received a lot of positive reviews from the wrestling world. Recently it was confirmed that there will be a Forbidden Door II pay-per-view this year and it’s set to take place from the Scotiabank Centre in Toronto on Sunday, June 25.
Earlier this year Mercedes Mone made her NJPW debut and she became the IWGP Women’s Champion last month when she defeated Kairi to win the belt. During a recent Q&A session at Planet Comicon, Mercedes Mone was asked if she could be part of the upcoming Forbidden Door pay-per-view and she teased that she could be open.
“Ooh, when is it (AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door)? Is it June? June or July? Okay. What day? I don’t know when the show is. Anybody know the date? I don’t know, we gotta see then. June’s so far. I think I could be open, July might be open but, gotta get that phone call. Gotta get that phone call from unc.”
Mercedes Mone parted ways with WWE last year and since then there’s been a lot of speculation regarding whether or not she could appear on AEW programming in some form, so it will be interesting to see if she does indeed cross paths with AEW stars at Forbidden Door in June. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
