D-Generation X is one of the most well known stables of all time and The Hardys are one of the most well known tag teams of all time. Both DX and The Hardys were a big part of The Attitude Era and it sounds like there was once talk of possibly adding Matt and Jeff Hardy to DX.
During a recent episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast Matt Hardy explained that there was a pitch for him and his brother to be pledges for DX with the idea being that they could maybe join the group down the line.
“The first thing that comes to mind when we first got there, and we were trying to get our feet underneath us and understand what was going on. We obviously, for the first year, really just went with the flow, and whatever they asked us to do, we would do. But something they pitched is they had an idea, and it was creative. This came down from Vince Russo, where he wanted myself and Jeff to be pledges for D-X. And we were like into that.
“You’ll see moments. If you look back in 1998 when we’re in tights, there’s several times we probably do it for like four or five weeks straight. Where we come to the ring, we go up in the corners, and Jeff and I are doing this, and we do the D-X, and we’re going to pledge for D-X, and then eventually kind of like ended up being like their lackeys to a degree and pledge with them and then they were going to kind of see where it went.
“And then maybe we could legitimately like be a part of the D-X when it’s all said and done that that was an idea that Vince Russo had that he wanted to try. And D-X eventually, we did it for like four or five weeks, and they said, ‘Okay, enough of that. We’re not going to do this. These guys aren’t quite ready; let them do whatever.’ And then it just like stopped immediately and was never revisited.”
Do you think The Hardys would have been a good fit for DX? Sound off in the comments below.
