Matt Hardy On WWE Squandering The Hardys During Their Last Run With The Company

In 2017 Matt and Jeff Hardy were two of the most talked about wrestlers in the industry after they got the Broken Universe over and parted ways with Impact Wrestling.

Prior to WrestleMania 33 there were rumors of a possible return for The Hardys, and the brothers returned at the Show of Shows where they won the Raw Tag Team Titles.

Podcaster Jim Valley recently noted on Twitter that he thinks WWE does a poor job of monetizing its history and nostalgia, and he also followed up by saying Matt Hardy does it better.

A fan then responded by saying WWE has made several books, DVDs, and documentaries about The Hardys over the years, and Jim responded with the following:

“DVDs? What year is it? The Hardys got the biggest reaction at WM33 and then went nowhere. There’s a difference between licensing products & proactively selling superstars other than Hogan, Savage, Michaels, Taker, Rock and Austin. There are lots of fans who aren’t being serviced.”

The conversation caught the attention of Matt Hardy who went on to say that he feels the last run The Hardys had together in WWE could have been so much better.

“You’re correct, Jim. We were insanely hot coming into WM33, but our usage was squandered. I am grateful for the return & time there, but it could’ve been SO much better. You can keep an act hot & a money maker without it being a forced focal point of the show. AEW grants me this.”

One way or another it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing The Hardys reunite anytime soon as Matt Hardy joined AEW back in March and Jeff will be with WWE for the foreseeable future.
