Mark Hunt filed a civil lawsuit in US District court on Tuesday against Brock Lesnar and the UFC claiming that the two parties colluded together to hurt his brand and cost him future earnings.
This suit stems from the July 2016 UFC 200 fight in which Brock Lesnar won a fight in a judge’s decision. The result of the fight was eventually overturned and ruled a no-contest due to Lesnar’s failure of multiple drug tests due to the fact that he tested positive for clomiphene.
Clomiphene is an estrogen blocker that is sometimes used to accompany steroid use, although Lesnar’s camp claims that the positive test was a result of a foot creme that Brock was using.
Hunt doesn’t buy the foot creme story and claims that UFC officials knew of the doping beforehand but still heavily promoted the high profile fight. The actual amount of damages that Mark is seeking is unknown at this time, but it’s safe to say that it will be a hard case to prove.
Lesnar was suspended for a year by the Nevada Athletic Commission and fined $250,000 for this inftaction. Hunt’s lawsuit alleges racketeering, fraud, negligence, and breach of contract.
“I want the UFC to understand it’s not OK to keep doing what they’re doing,” Hunt told ESPN.com. “They’re allowing guys to do this. They had a chance to take all the money from this guy, because he’s a cheater, and they didn’t.
In the end, the most Hunt can probably expect from this is a moral victory as UFC already have their attorneys on the case and plan to shut him down as quickly as possible.
