Mark Henry has inducted a lot of people into the Hall Of Pain for years now and is a shoo-in for the WWE Hall Of Fame at this point. But he hasn’t wrestled for a long time leading some to believe his WWE career which started in 1996 is finally coming to a close.
There were reports which said Mark Henry was indeed retired and he seemed to confirm them in an interview where he said, “I’m retired man, I’m an old guy. I want people to remember my best.” But it seems like it isn’t as cut and dry of a situation.
While speaking to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Henry said he has way more he can do in the pro wrestling business and still has plenty of steam. “I am not retired,” Henry said regarding reports of his retirement. “There is still a lot I can do.”
Henry said that his love for WWE might be strong, but he has children who also need him at home. Therefore, his obligations at home are what is keeping him from the ring as often as he used to show up. “They want me to see their recitals and sporting events, and I want to see them grow and evolve. My dad didn’t live with me when I was growing up, and he missed so much. I am not going to repeat that.”
Whether this is a sign that Mark Henry could be popping into the Royal Rumble match this year is yet to be seen. But it doesn’t sound like Henry is going to admit he’s retired just yet.
Mark Henry spoke on Table For 3 about his passion for the business and how he would like to translate his love for pro wrestling into a backstage capacity possibly as a producer. There is no doubt he could be extremely useful in that capacity. But apparently, Henry isn’t hanging up his boots at this point.
So don’t be surprised if the Hall Of Pain isn’t closed just yet.
