It seems that a former Universal Champion is no longer with WWE as Fightful Select is reporting that Bill Goldberg’s contract with the company expired at the end of 2022. No deal was reached to renew or extend his contract which means that Goldberg is now a free agent.
Goldberg last wrestled in 2022 when he challenged Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at the Elimination Chamber premium live event. In the end it was Roman Reigns who walked out with the belt after he picked up a win over Goldberg.
The Hall of Famer has said that he doesn’t want to end his career on a loss to The Tribal Chief. In a recent interview Goldberg said that WWE owes him a retirement match, but indicated that he has some ideas on how to make it happen if WWE doesn’t call him.
“You never say never, especially in wrestling, and they owe me one. That’s all I can say. I made a deal with the devil and I did my job, and they owe me a retirement match. At the end of the day, at 56, it’s not something where I’m sitting by the phone waiting for a call. I’ve got a few ideas of how to do it on my own, possibly in Israel. So never say never.”
It was rumored in 2019 that AEW had some interest in Goldberg, but that was not confirmed. Stay tuned for more updates on Goldberg’s status as they become available.
