Cody Rhodes picked up a big win last weekend when he won the Royal Rumble for the second year in a row and it seemed that Rhodes had his sights set on Roman Reigns. However, this week on SmackDown, Cody Rhodes told Roman Reigns that he won’t be coming for him at WrestleMania. The American Nightmare then introduced The Rock who had a stare down with Roman Reigns that seemingly set up a WrestleMania match between the two stars.
PWInsider is reporting that the current plan moving forward is for Cody Rhodes to face off against Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40 in April. It was noted that no one would likely deny forces beyond Cody’s control changed the board game and that’s the reality of the new WWE. It’s being said that the old rules don’t matter and Endeavor is going to do what they believe will maximize their business.
Even though Cody’s story was originally set up for WrestleMania 40 there were reportedly already people in the company openly talking about the idea of Cody winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and challenging the winner of Rock vs. Reigns to a title unification match at SummerSlam.
There has been a lot of backlash from fans who were invested in the Cody Rhodes storyline that’s been built over the last few years, but there’s currently no word on whether or not WWE will be looking to change plans due to the backlash and get Cody back in the mix with Rock and Roman.
