Last month Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble and fans assumed that he would be challenging Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 40. However, last week on SmackDown, Cody Rhodes seemingly gave up his chance to face Roman Reigns when he introduced The Rock who confronted The Tribal Chief as the show went off the air.
Today the WrestleMania 40 press conference is set to take place from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and there’s a lot of speculation regarding how things will play out. With fans rallying behind Cody Rhodes following The Rock’s return some have wondered if we could see a triple threat match at WrestleMania. Dave Meltzer recently talked about WWE’s plan for WrestleMania on Wrestling Observer Radio and noted that a triple threat is not in the plans.
“Most likely when the thing tomorrow is over whatever they’re doing whether it’s a three way, which I was told it was not going to be. But whether it’s them doing two matches where Roman wrestles twice, or how they make this thing work, I was told it will likely be completed by the end of the press conference.”
Meltzer went on to say that there will be an angle that plays out at the press conference, and while WWE could always change plans on the road to WrestleMania, the matches that are put in place by the end of the press conference will most likely be on the real card.
