After weeks of rumors and speculation Ric Flair confirmed that he will indeed be returning to the ring for one more match on July 31st. Flair is set to wrestle for in Nashville and it sounds like he could be facing one of his old rivals.
Fightful Select reports that sources close to Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat say the plan is for Ricky to come out of retirement. The working plan is for Flair and Steamboat to face off, but not in a singles match.
Dave Meltzer originally reported that the plan is for Ric Flair and FTR to face the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express and someone else. The working plan is currently for that someone else to be Rickey Steamboat.
Ricky Steamboat last competed in a tag team match in FCW in 2010. He last faced Ric Flair in 1994. It has not been confirmed that the match has been finalized for Starrcast, but it has reportedly been in the works for weeks now, and Steamboat has met with Conrad Thompson.
The plan is for there to be many heavy Jim Crockett Promotions elements featured throughout the event. The match has not been signed off on by Tony Khan and is said to be far from a done deal as of this writing. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
