Unfortunately for Roman Reigns he had to be pulled from the WWE Day 1 pay-per-view after he tested positive for COVID-19, but he was originally set to defend his Universal Title against Brock Lesnar at the event. Instead Brock Lesnar was added to the WWE Championship match, and he ended up winning the belt when he pinned Big E.
Brock Lesnar’s WWE Title win got a lot of people talking, but it looks like his victory has not changed plans for WrestleMania 38. Dave Meltzer recently noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE had to make some changes in regards to how things will play out, but the company has everything worked out between now and WrestleMania.
“Drew (McIntyre) will find out I presume this week how serious it is. He would be the guy (most likely to face Reigns at Royal Rumble), but he may not be available. I know that they’ve got everything worked out between now and WrestleMania. Everything is worked out. All the original plans, there were some changes obviously because the Lesnar and Roman Reigns match from Saturday didn’t happen, but they’ve got their new twists and turns, and the final destination, which is presumably Lesnar and Roman Reigns, is still on.”
Meltzer also noted the original plans for the WWE Championship match are still in place, but the exact plan is not known at this time, and how WWE plans to get there has changed.
“Whatever the plan was for the WWE Championship match – I don’t know what it was – but they’re gonna get there, and that’s also still on. So the WrestleMania matches are the same, but the plans on how to get there obviously have changed.”
Stay tuned for more updates on WrestleMania 38 as they become available.
