Last week Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out of Raw and WWE later announced that the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles had been vacated. It was confirmed during Friday Night SmackDown that Banks and Naomi had been suspended, and that the company has plans to hold a tournament to crown new champions.
Bryan Alvarez recently noted on Wrestling Observer Live that WWE currently has plans to use NXT talents in the tournament. WWE reportedly sent word to NXT to, “think about some women that might be able to be a team.”
It was also noted that fans might see teams like Katana Chance & Kayden Carter get called up because more teams are needed on the WWE main roster.
After Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out WWE issued a statement saying that the duo left the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles on the desk of John Laurinaitis. As of this writing WWE has yet to make any official announcements regarding when the tournament will kick off or who will be competing in it. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
