CM Punk’s AEW contract was terminated back in September and fans immediately started talking about a potential WWE return. After months of speculation it finally happened on Saturday night when CM Punk made a surprise appearance after the Survivor Series main event.
PWInsider is reporting that CM Punk’s new deal with WWE is believed to be several years in length. Punk and WWE reportedly had their first communications over the last week.
It’s being said that the deal came together quickly after the ice was broken and WWE is looking at it as a new beginning. It was noted that the two sides officially came to terms the day of Survivor Series.
The idea of holding off CM Punk’s return until the Royal Rumble was considered. However, the thought was that the longer WWE waited to bring Punk back to TV the more likely it would be that their plans would have leaked. Instead WWE rushed CM Punk’s return for a last second cameo at Survivor Series which was only 20 minutes from his home.
Nothing was officially locked in with CM Punk and WWE until the day of Survivor Series. No one in WWE has confirmed this, but the speculation is that he won’t be working a full time schedule.
