The Royal Rumble emanated from Saudi Arabia for the first time ever on Saturday and the stakes were high heading into the show. Liv Morgan won the women’s Royal Rumble in the opening match, and AJ Styles put his career on the line when he faced off against Gunther in the second match of the night.
AJ Styles put up a good fight, but ultimately it was Gunther who picked up the victory after he applied the sleeper hold and made AJ pass out. After the match AJ Styles celebrated with the fans as he said goodbye, and he left without saying a word.
Following his match at the Royal Rumble, PWInsider is reporting that AJ Styles is not currently scheduled to appear on on WWE Raw on Monday.
There’s been a lot of speculation regarding AJ’s future following his WWE retirement match, but Triple H indicated during the Royal Rumble post-show that The Phenomenal One is ready to wrap up his in ring career.
“AJ is one of those people that absolutely wants to give back and be a part of this business. I don’t want to speak for him, but the conversations that he had with me, he made it very clear that he was just done with the in-ring,” Triple H said.
