The road to WrestleMania has been bumpy to say the least as it seems that creative plans had been in flux up until recently. For weeks it was rumored that another Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre match was set for WrestleMania 42, but WWE has decided to go in a different direction.
Last month Randy Orton won the men’s Elimination Chamber match, and it was confirmed last week when Cody Rhodes defeated Drew McIntyre to win the Undisputed WWE Championship that Orton will be facing The American Nightmare on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
PWInsider reports that in asking around it was learned that originally there was a pitch for Cody Rhodes to face Drew McIntyre inside Hell in a Cell. However, WWE has moved forward with plans for Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre appears to be set for a match against Jacob Fatu.
Following Cody’s title win on SmackDown last week some fans have called for WWE to add more names to the Undisputed WWE Championship bout at WrestleMania to make it a multi-man match. However, it was recently reported that WWE will be moving forward with Orton vs. Rhodes and there are no plans to make the match a triple threat, or a four way.
WrestleMania 42 will air live from Allegiant Stadium on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19, 2026 and the current card can be seen below.
