For weeks now the Continental Classic has been the focus of AEW programming. The semifinals took place during the Worlds End pay-per-view on Saturday as Will Ospreay faced Kyle Fletcher and Kazuchika Okada faced off against Ricochet in the opening matches.
Ospreay managed to pick up a victory over Kyle Fletcher to advance in the tournament, but Opsreay was busted open during the match. Kazuchika Okada then went on to defeat Ricochet to set up an Ospreay vs. Okada match for the finals.
Later in the night Renee Paquette approached Will Ospreay backstage and asked him how he felt about facing Kazuchika Okada later in the night. Ospreay asked the fans to carry him to victory, and he said that he’s going to Disney World after he beats Okada.
Ospreay was wearing a bandage around his forehead as he made his way to the ring to face Okada in the finals. The fans were electric as the bell rang and they waited for the match to kick off.
The match featured several near falls and Will Ospreay was busted open once again near the end when Okada hit him with a series of kicks to the head.
Ospreay tried to put Okada away when he hit him with the Rainmaker followed by Starbreaker, but Okada kicked out. Will followed up by attempting the Tiger Driver 92 which Okada countered into a lariat.
After several reversals Okada finally landed the Rainmaker to put Ospreay away for the three count. After the match Okada extended his hand to Ospreay as the fans cheered.
Christopher Daniels made his way out into the arena and announced that normally he would hand Okada the Continental Championship, but he’s no longer an EVP for All Elite Wrestling. He then introduced Kenny Omega as the new EVP while the fans cheered.
Kenny Omega grabbed the AEW Continental Championship and brought it to the ring. Omega handed the belt to Okada who held it up in Kenny’s face. Kenny clapped for Okada then left the ring.
