Anything can happen in the world of professional wrestling and fans were shocked when Shayna Baszler turned on Ronda Rousey during the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match at Money in the Bank last month. The two former partners then kicked off a feud and it was reported that plans for the feud had to be moved up because Ronda Rousey was on her way out of WWE.
Over the weekend the annual SummerSlam premium live event took place from Ford Field in Detroit, MI and Ronda Rousey faced off against Shayna Baszler in a MMA rules match at the event. Shayna Baszler picked up a big win over Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam, and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer recently noted that the match was Ronda’s farewell for now.
“For Ronda Rousey, that was her farewell at least for now. She’s not expected back at any specific date and that’s why she did that finish with Shayna Baszler where she got choked out.”
Ronda Rousey originally made her in-ring debut with WWE at WrestleMania 34 and kicked off a run with the company that lasted through WrestleMania 35. She later made her return to the company during the women’s Royal Rumble match in 2022 and she went on to challenge Charlotte for the SmackDown Women’s Championship after winning the match. Now Ronda Rousey’s second run with the company has wrapped up, but it also seems like the door is open for her to return in the future.
