Major Heel Turn Takes Place On SmackDown, New WWE Tag Team Champions Crowned

Originally WWE announced that The Motor City Machine Guns would be defending their WWE Tag Team Titles against The Street Profits on SmackDown this week, but that match didn’t end up happening.

During SmackDown, Michael Cole noted that there was something happening backstage and the cameras cut to Byron Saxton who informed everyone that The Street Profits had been laid out.

Nick Aldis, B-Fab and several WWE officials checked on The Street Profits as they tried to recover from an attack. When pressed for answers Nick Aldis stated that all he knew was The Street Profits were attacked and needed medical attention.

The Motor City Machine Guns then confronted Nick Aldis as Johnny Gargano approached to ask what was going on. Aldis told The Motor City Machine Guns that there’s no way The Street Profits will be able to compete tonight. Gargano said that DIY can step in to fix everything.

Nick Aldis hesitated, but Alex Shelley insisted that DIY get their title match. Everyone agreed to make the match official, but Nick Aldis insisted that Gargano tell Tommaso Ciampa, “don’t make me regret this.”

Ciampa looked incredibly aggravated as he made his way to the ring. He kicked off the the match and taunted Gargano. Eventually he tagged Johnny Gargano in, but then immediately tagged Gargano’s back and re-entered the match. The Motor City Machine Guns hit Tommaso Ciampa with a double team move as the momentum shifted away from DIY.

Tomasso Ciampa brawled with Alex Shelley outside the ring as Johnny Gargano told him to get the match back in the ring. Gargano and Ciampa continued to argue then Gargano forcefully tagged himself in. Tommaso Ciampa tagged himself in again shortly after.

At one point Ciampa inadvertently knocked Gargano off the apron with a big boot. Chris Sabin got the hot tag and took down both Ciampa and Gargano. He hit a crossbody off the top on Ciampa for a two count then tagged in Shelley. It pretty much turned into a two on one match with The Motor City Machine Guns double teaming Ciampa.

Johnny Gargano got back up on the apron after a few minutes. Ciampa threw Shelley out of the ring, tagged Gargano in then told him to get Shelley back in the ring. Ciampa shoved Gargano, so Johnny knocked him down. They argued and Ciampa told Gargano they’re done. Ciampa grabbed a chair and tried to enter the ring. The referee was distracted while he tried to get the chair away from Tommaso Ciampa.

As the referee wasn’t looking Johnny hit a low blow on Chris Sabin. He then tagged in Ciampa and they put Chris Sabin away to win the WWE Tag Team Championship. After the match DIY celebrated together with the belts.
