The second Forbidden Door pay-per-view is quickly approaching and so far several big matches have been announced for the event. The stars of AEW and NJPW will collide at Forbidden Door, but it doesn’t sound like we’ll be seeing a CM Punk vs. KENTA match.
Fightful Select reports that KENTA told NJPW and AEW that he isn’t facing CM Punk at Forbidden Door and word started making the rounds at Collision on Saturday night. As of Saturday night AEW was discussing potential plans for CM Punk at Forbidden Door, or if he’ll even be on the show.
NJPW sources confirmed that KENTA vs. CM Punk had been planned for the show, but it is no longer happening. No reason was given in regard to why the match is no longer happening.
CM Punk was reportedly open to the match with KENTA and there were other options being evaluated for the former AEW World Champion. While talking to Fightful about KENTA, NJPW sources confirmed that most top talent were booked for other opponents even though the matches haven’t officially been announced yet.
