Luke Harper has been on the WWE main roster for a few years now, but he’s been playing second fiddle to Bray Wyatt as a member of The Wyatt Family. To hardcore wrestling fans around the world Luke Harper is an underutilized superstar, but some of the more casual fans don’t seem to be as familiar with Harper and his exceptional work inside the ring.
Recently Harper has managed to separate himself from The Wyatt Family and he found himself fighting for the chance to challenge Bray Wyatt for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 33. Over the past few weeks quite a few fans have shown their support for him and Luke Harper recently told Fox Sports that the experience has opened his eyes.
“It’s incredibly frustrating. There were times in my career when I felt like I was serving several different masters, and for me that wasn’t beneficial. It was to a point, but then I didn’t really realize what was out there until these last couple weeks. The 2014 run was a bit of a tease. I was still… I guess not fully developed as a WWE superstar at that point, and I feel like I’m completely developed now. The last six or seven weeks away from the Family have been very eye-opening. It was frustrating. Even to this day I’ll go to an airport and someone will say ‘hey Bray Wyatt!’ or ‘hey Erick Rowan!’ They don’t know who I am. And that’s very frustrating, because I’m part of a group.”
Luke Harper has worked hard throughout his career so it’s easy to see why he would be frustrated by the fact that sometimes fans mistake him for someone else. Honestly, who wouldn’t be frustrated by that type of situation?
His little identity crisis doesn’t seem to be the only thing frustrating the former Intercontinental Champion at the moment. Although he’s been featured as a top star over the past few weeks, he seems to be falling back down the card and he doesn’t think that WWE has any big WrestleMania plans for him.
“That I don’t know. I have a feeling I’m going to have to create my own opportunity again, like I just did the last six weeks, and take it into my own hands. Honestly, I don’t think there’s a big plan for me, so I guess I’ll have to make one.”
WWE Champion Bray Wyatt will be facing off against former Wyatt Family member Randy Orton at WrestleMania 33, and it looks like AJ Styles will be battling Shane McMahon.
If you could book Luke Harper’s match for WrestleMania 33, who would he face? Sound off in the comments below.
