NXT TakeOver specials are becoming some of the best parts of the WWE product. Fans usually pack an arena the night before WWE does the same and puts on a show that is hard to top if it’s possible at all.
One of the greatest moments in NXT TakeOver history took place while they were still holding TakeOver specials at the Full Sail Arena. NXT TakeOver: Respect took place in October 2015 with a big main event. Sasha Banks battled Bayley for the NXT Women’s Championship and although Bayley won the encounter at 3 to 2 falls, both women had a lot to be proud of.
But it turns out they didn’t have much time to actually get their amazing match together.
Bayley recently spoke to Edge and Christian on their Pod Of Awesomeness where she revealed how little time her and Sasha Banks actually had to prepare for one of the biggest matches of their careers.
“That’s definitely a milestone in both of our careers and one that like — people do ask us about that a lot and I don’t get tired of it for some reason it still gets me emotional.”
“I can remember every single detail about it and every second leading up to it, still every emotion that went into it that’s still my greatest memory but I think we really didn’t have much time [to plan the match] to be honest because she had just got into the main roster so we really weren’t seeing each other much.”
“I was still kinda just working still at the [WWE Performance Center] and working NXT shows and she was on tour, I believe they were on tour right before this match because the match was in August, you know WWE goes to Europe in November so like she was gone. So it’s kinda hard to communicate and stuff.”
“But it really was, we might have talked over it once at the PC but the day of — we didn’t see each other until the day-of cause she also had a SummerSlam match the next night so she was preparing for all that. She had appearances leading up to it, I had appearances leading up to it and we didn’t really talk, talk until the night of.”
“But we both had our own ideas and we both went over stuff the one time we did get to meet. But like, I don’t know because we worked together so many times before it’s not like we were nervous that we weren’t gonna — I mean we already knew each other so it wasn’t nerve-racking like that it’s just a big moment and we both knew how big the night was to Triple H and to NXT and for us this match, we wanted it to just be as big as it could be. It was supposed to be her last NXT match so I wanted to make sure she went out and felt proud about it so I put pressure on myself too because I wanted her to be happy going out. Obviously, it wasn’t her last match but it was one of those nights when we knew we had to nail it.”
It turns out if you know someone well enough you don’t really need much time to plan out some magic.
