Chris Jericho came back in surprising fashion on Tuesday night to face Kevin Owens for his US Championship. Unfortunately, he also had to contend with AJ Styles. Y2J lost clean in the middle of the ring when AJ stole a victory from KO to continue their program.
It might look like AJ Styles and Kevin Owens are going to continue their feud but what’s not so clear is the current status of Chirs Jericho. It certainly sounded like Jericho was back by the way he was being put over on commentary. Dave Meltzer recently went into the subject on a recent Wrestling Observer Radio.
“I’m not sure what [Chris Jericho’s] schedule is right now. He’s not advertised or listed for any shows going forward but he, you know the reaction was certainly like he’s back. You know he’s still got concert stuff coming up — he’s got a concert coming up Friday night in New York. But aside from that, I don’t know that he’s got anything till I think he’s got something in September but it’s like one show. Then in October I know he’s supposed to — I know he’s got something in Sacramento and he’s got a European tour like October 27th to like November 18th. So there is concert stuff there.”
“So I wasn’t really expecting him back until like December/January. But you know, he’s back I guess and you know. But it’s kinda surprising he would come back and you know, he’d be the one to take the pin. Although if the idea was to keep Styles and Owens going, I guess Jericho’s role was to take the pin. That’s a real weird situation there.”
After that Meltzer and Alvarez went on to discuss the fact that the Kevin Owens/AJ Styles match at Battleground had a match finish switch in the middle of it. But in the end, we never know what Chris Jericho is going to do next.
At this point, Chris could do an early gig with Fozzy in Germany, hop on a private jet, and be on SmackDown that night if he wants to share the Gift Of Jericho that badly. But I guess it’ll just a matter of what they can work out. So work it out maaan.
