Yesterday WWE shocked the world when they announced that the brand split is returning and a draft is imminent. WWE will be going through some big changes over the next few months because the company is going to have two separate rosters, SmackDown is moving to Tuesdays and it’s also going live.
There’s a lot of mystery surrounding the finer details of how this whole brand split thing is going to work out at the moment, but there are some rumors out there that could give fans an idea of where it’s all headed. With Raw and SmackDown serving as two separate brands, each brand is going to need a face. So who will the face be for Raw and who will the face be for SmackDown?
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the internal belief is that John Cena will be the face of SmackDown and Roman Reigns will be the face of Raw. It’s expected that Brock Lesnar will end up on Raw when he returns, but that’s not a lock. As far as when the draft will happen, it’s rumored that it will take place on the July 11th episode of Raw in Detroit.
It’s also being reported that some people within the company want a hard split for the rosters, while others want a soft split so that top stars can jump back and forth and create interesting match ups.
There are a lot of rumors going around in regards to how WWE is going to handle the title situation as well. It’s been reported that WWE is considering using two World Titles but that’s not a lock and it’s believed that the US and IC Title will end up on opposite shows. The WWE Women’s division could end up becoming exclusive to one show but that hasn’t been decided yet. WWE is also considering having two sets of tag titles or just having one set where the tag team champs work both shows.
As you can see it looks like a lot of WWE’s plans for the brand split are up in the air. The official word from WWE is that all questions will be answered over the next few weeks so hopefully it will all be cleared up sooner rather than later.
