The Latest On Rey Mysterio’s Future With WWE

Rey Mysterio got a lot of people talking when he entered the Royal Rumble this year, and there are clearly plenty of fans out there who are hoping to see him return to WWE in the future. Mysterio hasn’t ruled out a return, but he recently surprised fans when he challenged Jushin “Thunder” Liger to a match which is set to take place in NJPW.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the belief is Mysterio will end up signing a deal with the company, possibly in 2019, if it doesn’t happen this year. At this point in his career Mysterio is only interested in working part-time, so it’s also possible that he could work a term deal similar to Chris Jericho.

Rey Mysterio is currently set to face Jushin “Thunder” Liger at Strong Style Evolved in Long Beach next month, but it’s unclear at this point in time if Mysterio’s match with NJPW is just a one time thing, or the start of something more.

Mysterio and NJPW hadn’t done business in the past because of Mysterio’s high price, and NJPW’s relationship with CMLL. But Rey Mysterio is thought of more as a WWE guy, and with everybody talking about Mysterio’s recent Rumble appearance it looks like the time is right for the two sides to work together.
