LA Knight has become one of the most talked about wrestlers in WWE, and he’s clearly one of the fan favorites on the main roster. This isn’t Knight’s first run with the company as he originally reported to the WWE Performance Center in 2013. He worked under the name Slate Randall before he was eventually released.
During a recent appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, LA Knight talked about why he was released from WWE, and he explained that it had to do with issues between him and head coach Bill DeMott.
“When I got let go the first time, it wasn’t because of a talent issue. That was made very clear to me. It was very much a professional issue. Me and the head coach at the time, the way that things were going was not good. I was poking the bear because of things that were happening.”
Following his WWE release LA Knight went on to work with companies such as Impact Wrestling and NWA. Obviously he made his way back to WWE, but he originally had to take a pay cut when he returned to the company.
“Since leaving with heat, I was kind of given the same offer as I was the first time around,” he said. “I was making more money where I was. So I was like, ‘I’m gonna stay here for a year or two, hang onto this.’ At some point it was like, ‘Well, alright, I’m gonna have to take this short term downgrade in pay because, even though I’m making more here, I’m stuck, but if I take this downgrade here, eventually I can be well above here.”
