Kurt Angle Reveals What He Told Vince McMahon About Facing Baron Corbin In His Retirement Match

There’s no denying that Kurt Angle had a legendary career in the world of professional wrestling, but there are many fans out there who feel that his retirement match was underwhelming.

Angle was defeated by Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35, and he recently opened up about the match on The Kurt Angle Show while admitting that he didn’t think Corbin was the right guy to face him.

”I’m not crazy about wrestling Baron, not only because of his status at the time, and don’t get me wrong. Baron was a great worker and very professional. He was great to work with. I just don’t think at that time he was at the level to be wrestling a main eventer or Hall of Famer.”

The former WWE Champion went on to say that he went to Vince McMahon and requested that John Cena retire him, because Kurt helped to kick off Cena’s career.

”I went to his office and I said, ‘I’m going to retire at WrestleMania. I know you have a program planned with Baron, but I would like to have John Cena because I started his career and I want him to end mine.’ I thought it made a lot of sense. He said, ‘You’re not doing that this year. You can possibly do it next year if you continue to wrestle for a year.”
