After a long and successful career, Kurt Angle is set to wrestle his farewell match at WrestleMania 35, and this week on Monday Night Raw the WWE Hall of Famer announced that he will be facing Baron Corbin.
The announcement was met with a lot of backlash from wrestling fans, and WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross also referred to the match as “underwhelming” on social media.
PWInsider is reporting that the announcement that Baron Corbin will be Angle’s WrestleMania opponent was not a swerve. Plans could always change, but the plan backstage before Raw was 100% for Kurt Angle vs. Baron Corbin to take place at Mania.
WWE is aware of the negative reaction to the match, as they referenced the response on commentary during Raw.
It’s also being reported that Angle was hoping for a more high profile opponent for his farewell match.
