Kurt Angle On Why He Won’t Come Out Of Retirement

Fans were thrilled to see Kurt Angle return to WWE in 2017, but when he returned to TV he wasn’t wrestling initially as he was working as the General Manager for Monday Night Raw. Eventually Kurt did return to the ring and his return culminated with a retirement match against Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35.

While speaking about his retirement at Steel City Con, Kurt Angle noted that he wasn’t the wrestler he used to be when he returned to the ring in WWE, so he knew it was time to hang up the boots.

“I went back to the WWE in 2017 and it was the right time for me to come back. I got inducted in Hall of Fame, I wasn’t nearly the wrestler that I used to be and that’s why I retired. I lost the step and I don’t want the fans to remember me as this broken-down old wrestler, so I retired early and I got out of it and I never went back.”

Kurt Angle then went on to talk about wrestlers who continuously come out of retirement and made it clear that’s not something he will be looking to do in the future.

“There are wrestlers that still keep coming back, like Ric Flair, and Terry Funk when he was alive. He had like, I guess, 30 retirement matches, but that’s not me. I’m not going to be doing that either, I won’t I won’t step foot in the ring again unless I’m cutting a promo.”
