The wrestling landscape has changed quite a bit over the last few years and wrestlers with name value certainly have options in regard to where they could work. Kevin Owens signed a new deal with WWE back in December of 2021, but before the deal was signed there was a lot of speculation about Owens possibly jumping ship to All Elite Wrestling.
During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani of TNT Sports, Kevin Owens talked about why he signed the deal, and he noted that not only did Vince McMahon make it clear he wanted him on the roster, but KO also felt like he wasn’t done with WWE.
“I had idea how badly they [WWE] wanted me to stay here, I had no idea what was possible elsewhere, I had no clue. And honestly… none of the talks went very far. Because once it was time to talk to Vince, he made it clear he wanted me to stay. And I felt like I wasn’t done here. Not even career-wise but there’s also a whole side to this place that people don’t see, that people don’t know.”
“We have a really incredible crew. And I’m talking not the wrestlers… The production crew, the people behind the scenes, there’s really amazing people here and at the time I remember I can’t imagine leaving and not seeing these people every week… it’s weird I couldn’t imagine leaving these people behind and never seeing them again.”
Owens currently has about a year and a half left on his current deal, and he recently stated during an interview that he knows he has a place with WWE, but he questioned whether or not his place with the company will be in the ring.
