Cody Rhodes successfully defended the Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens at Saturday Night’s Main Event when he hit KO with the Cross Rhodes on a steel chair, and Owens made it clear shortly after that he wasn’t happy with the result. Following the title match Kevin Owens hit Cody with a package piledriver then he stole the Winged Eagle belt.

It doesn’t sound like Kevin Owens is planning to give the title back anytime soon as he recently took to social media to declare that he is the “true WWE Champion” when he posted the following:

“Now that I have your attention, I have great news for you all!

I am proud to officially announce that I will be competing in my first matches as your new, true WWE Champion on this year’s Holiday loop (that’s a term people in “the business” use that refers to a string of consecutive shows in different cities over a short period of time) starting in Jacksonville on the 26th, followed by 3 more shows in Florida and then one in Detroit for some reason.

Be there to witness history!

Oh, the Raw crew has shows too. Whatever.”

After KO attacked Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night’s Main Event, The American Nightmare was stretchered out of the arena. WWE later announced that Cody Rhodes suffered axial compression of the cervical spine, and a cervical strain with spasm due to the attack.

At this point in time it’s not clear when Cody Rhodes will be back on TV, but it’s probably safe to say that he’ll be looking for Kevin Owens when he returns.
