In the summer of 2011, CM Punk was on fire. He had walked out after winning the WWE Championship at Money in the Bank, and he later returned to defend the belt against John Cena in a Champion vs. Champion match.
After Punk won the match, he was attacked by Kevin Nash, and Alberto Del Rio cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase. Punk then started calling out Kevin Nash, and he ripped on him in his promos.
It seemed that Punk and Nash were eventually going to collide in the ring, but the whole thing kind of fizzled out, and Triple H later ended up feuding with Nash and they faced off at TLC in 2011 in a Sledgehammer Ladder Match. Yes, apparently that’s a real thing.
Nash recently opened up about his feud with CM Punk during an appearance on X-Pac 1-2-360, and he said that he’s not sure WWE wanted the feud to happen.
“I don’t know if they (WWE) wanted it to happen. When I came back… I had never been there when it was “this is your script and you have to follow it.” So I get there (WWE) and I’m reading his lines and he’s burying me and I have no rebuttals… It’s one of those situations and you know Paul (Triple H) is one of my best friends on earth… I would’ve liked to see what he (CM Punk) would’ve done if I would’ve just went up there and just bear pawed him in the face. But Paul (Triple H) was the boss.”
Nash’s return definitely created one of the most awkward storylines of 2011, as it started out as a conspiracy and then just kind of imploded on itself. But at least we’ll always have this:
