All Elite Wrestling was officially announced in 2019 and there’s no denying that the wrestling landscape has changed drastically since then. Fans have seen a number of former WWE stars jump ship to AEW, and last year one of AEW’s key figures jumped ship to WWE when Cody Rhodes returned at WrestleMania 38.
Tony Khan has said that there is a real war between AEW and WWE, but during a recent appearance on CBC Radio, Kenny Omega indicated that competing with WWE is not something he’s focused on.
“In professional wrestling, there are a lot more people doing it than you’d probably realize, and there are a lot of people with a lot of big dreams that just don’t have the platform to show just how talented they are.”
“AEW, for me, is being able to show the world some of the men and women who maybe wouldn’t have had a voice or wouldn’t have had the stage to show what they do best.”
“I think it has allowed for just, I would say, more variety, and that’s why I’ll never say that we went into this to compete with WWE. I just want to give people the option to see things that are different stories that you might not be able to see there.”
Kenny Omega has been a hot topic recently as it’s been reported that his AEW contract is set to expire this year and WWE is interested in bringing him in. One way or another it will be interesting to see how things play out for Omega in the months to come. Stay tuned for updates.
