Fans don’t see John Cena very often on WWE programming nowadays, but he will be returning to TV before 2022 comes to an end. Today WWE confirmed to Variety that John Cena will be making his WWE return when he appears on the December 30 episode of Friday Night SmackDown which is set to take place from the Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL.
According to the report more announcements are expected to be made ahead of the final SmackDown of 2022. John Cena only made one appearance on WWE programming this year when he returned to Raw to celebrate his 20th anniversary with the company in June. Cena noted that he will wrestle again, but he doesn’t know when.
Cena has been busy focusing on his acting career over the last few years and it was recently reported that his status for WrestleMania next year is unknown as he’s currently set to film a move in Australia in February and March.
Whether John Cena ends up competing at WrestleMania next year remains to be seen, but one way or another it will be interesting to hear what he has to say when he returns to SmackDown in a few weeks. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
