John Cena and Shinsuke Nakamura had a very good match on SmackDown Live before SummerSlam. It was something that needed to happen because Cena needs to face everyone while he can.
But as popular as Nakamura might be there are still things he needs to do in order to really make it work. John Cena recently appeared on E&C’s Pod Of Awesomeness where he discussed The King Of Strong Style and what he needs to do in order to get over with the WWE Universe.
“I think with [Shinsuke Nakamura] and no doubt he’s very skilled and extremely interesting but with a character like him you eventually need to explain what the interesting is. And I know he’s diligently working on trying to convey to our audience better. Trying to cut better promos. I love his entrance he like — I say this to all the guys: no one we have for the most part is bad with a skillset of professional wrestling. Everyone now, like the bar has been raised so high that I thank you for the props, but I’m like on the low-end of being mediocre when it comes to all these guys because they’re all so very gifted.”
“The women as well. It’s amazing what they can do. But literally I think that the absence of that marquee personality is a giant Grand Canyon of a relationship between Superstar and audience. And Shinsuke — I think the allure of Nakamura is he was different and interesting but the longer he stays on television the more he’s gonna have to let the audience in on who he is.”
Nakamura has made great strides in his promo work since even his main roster call-up. Anyone who expects him to be absolutely fluent in English needs to understand that he’s doing the best he can.
But where Nakamura really communicates is through his outstanding matches. Cena realizes this, but Nakamura still needs to be able to let fans in a little bit more so they can appreciate how special he really is.
