John Cena and The Rock have an interesting history, as there was once a time when they weren’t on the best of terms because Cena called out The Rock for leaving WWE to focus on his career in Hollywood.
However, times have changed and John Cena is now currently working hard to establish himself as a star in Hollywood, and he’s walked back on his negative comments about The Rock’s acting career.
Cena opened up about his relationship with The Rock during an interview with TheSportsDaily.com, and revealed that The Great One gave him some very important advice when he needed it the most.
“The Rock has been genuine enough to tell me to be myself. I think it was great advice. It came right at a time when I needed it. I tried some movies before, and they weren’t really successful. The reason I was doing those movies was trying to create a business model. Then I looked back at myself and realized I just like telling stories. He gave me some pretty cool advice at unbelievable timing. He said: ‘Hey man, they’re going to like you, or hate you, for you. Be yourself. At least that way at the end of the day you’ll feel good about your body of work.’”
The 16 time WWE World Champion was also asked if he had advice for anyone trying to follow in his footsteps, and he borrowed a quote from a familiar name.
“I’m going to borrow something from someone who told me something that stuck with me for a long time. “’They’re going to like you, or hate you, for you. Be yourself. At least that way at the end of the day you’ll feel good about your body of work.’”
Cena was absent from WWE for most of 2018, but he’s back with the company for the next few weeks, and he made his return to TV this week on SmackDown Live when he teamed up with Becky Lynch to take on Zelina Vega and Andrade “Cien” Almas.
