John Cena Responds To Reports Claiming He Asked To Face Rey Mysterio At WrestleMania 34

Sunday night John Cena is set to wrestle in a six pack challenge at Fastlane, and the WWE Championship will be on the line. If he wins the belt, Cena will become a 17 time WWE World Champion, and he will go on to defend his title against Shinsuke Nakamura at WrestleMania 34.

However, if he doesn’t win, then John Cena will continue to search for an opponent to face on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

It’s been rumored that John Cena could be facing The Undertaker at Mania, but Sports Illustrated recently claimed that a match with Taker is off the table, and Cena requested to face either Rey Mysterio or Samoa Joe.

Cena recently spoke to SI, and he responded to the report by saying Rey is great, but he’s never asked for a specific WrestleMania opponent.

“I have never asked for a WrestleMania opponent,” said Cena. “If you look at what I’ve done in my WrestleMania entirety, from coming out at Safeco Field in a sweat suit rapping to two cardboard cutouts, to working with established superstars to working with rookies, to being fortunate enough to use the platform to ask a beautiful young lady to marry me.”

He added that he simply does what’s asked of him and he tries to do it to the best of his ability.

“A lot of our performers get frustrated and ask, ‘What can you do for me?’ I just ask, ‘What can I do for you?’ They tell me, and I do it to the best of my ability. Even if it’s no one.”

It will certainly be interesting to see who Cena faces at WrestleMania, but he also teased that he may not face anyone at all.

“What a great story it would be for me to miss and have to buy a ticket,” said Cena. “The year doesn’t stop at WrestleMania, we do Raw the next night. Now imagine if this stalwart, this statue of the WWE now has to look inside himself and ask, ‘Do I still have it?’ after being left out of the biggest show of the year.”

“Don’t put this past Vince. Vince is extremely smart, and the reason he is so successful is his ability to see beyond what is immediately in front of him. A two-year or a three-year play would be smart.”
