John Cena On The Rock Calling CM Punk, His Past Comments About The Rock

The Rock has been hard at work putting together scenes for the upcoming film “Fighting With My Family” and last week The Rock and his Seven Bucks Production crew shot some scenes for the film at the Staples Center. After Raw went off the air The Rock appeared in front of the live crowd and the fans greeted him with CM Punk chants. Rock responded by pulling out his phone and calling Punk. Unfortunately Punk didn’t answer, but he did leave him a voicemail.

In the days that followed it was reported that Vince McMahon wasn’t very happy about The Rock calling Punk and The Rock later told fans on Twitter that he was simply trying to give them what they wanted.

One man who knows The Rock quite well is John Cena. John feuded with The Rock a few years ago and they fought each other in the main event of WrestleMania 28 and WrestleMania 29. John Cena recently spoke to Sports Illustrated and he talked a little bit about The Rock’s now infamous phone call to CM Punk and he noted that The Rock’s instincts are undeniable.

“That’s what’s made him so successful,” said Cena. “His instincts, his ability to do an about-face to the establishment, that’s what allows him to connect as ‘The People’s Champion’. Once again, I think his biggest accomplishment is to be one of the bricks that break the wall of the stereotype that we have.”

John Cena had his problems with The Rock back in the day, and he called Rock out several times and accused him of abandoning WWE. Obviously Cena’s comments got to The Rock because the former WWE Champion returned to the company to confront John face to face.

Although John Cena has criticized The Rock in the past, he’s singing a very different tune now that he understands what The Rock was trying to accomplish when he left WWE for Hollywood.

“It was stupid of me,” admitted Cena. “It genuinely was. That was my perspective at the time. When you’re involved in the daily grind of WWE, and that’s something I never will let go of—I promise you that. I just love it, and I don’t think I need to say that, ever again, or have somebody question my allegiance to a brand, not the sport of professional wrestling, so to say, but a brand. I love the WWE. For me to not be able to see Dwayne’s vision on what he wanted to do personally, and how his personal success could affect a growing global brand, that was just ignorant on my part.”

It’s rumored that John Cena will be teaming up with his girlfriend Nikki Bella to face The Miz and Maryse in a mixed tag match at WrestleMania 33. But after he wraps up that feud it looks like Cena will be taking more time away to focus on his acting career.

The 16 time WWE World Champion is expected to take more time away from WWE after the show of shows and it’s presumed that he will start filming “The Pact” which is set to be released in 2018.
