John Cena’s star is most definitely on the rise in Hollywood, and over the past few years he’s been spending less and less time away from WWE. Cena is now a free agent, and he’s currently performing on the SmackDown Live brand and he’s hoping to earn himself a shot at the WWE Championship when he takes on Shinsuke Nakamura in a number 1 contenders match on Tuesday night. It looks like Cena’s schedule is going to get even busier because he just landed a huge movie role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, John Cena has landed a lead role in the “Transformers” spinoff movie “Bumblebee.” Hailee Steinfeld is set to play the lead, and the film will feature other stars such as Jorge Lendeborg, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny.
A rough synopsis of the movie reads as follows:
“The story is set in the year 1987, where Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.”
Travis Knight is set to direct, and Paramount has high hopes that they will be able to build a Transformers Cinematic Universe. The “Bumblebee” movie will be the first spinoff for the franchise.
The film will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Michael Bay, along with executive producers Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner, Mark Vahradian and Chris Brigham.
No word right now on how this will impact John Cena’s WWE schedule going forward, as production for the film reportedly kicked off today in California. The release date is set for December 21, 2018.
