There were only 5 dates remaining on John Cena’s retirement tour heading into the Crown Jewel premium live event on Saturday, and the former WWE Champion stepped into the ring to face AJ Styles in one of his final matches. The Australian fans were clearly excited to see John Cena as the crowd was flooded with yellow John Cena shirts.
AJ Styles entered first and he came out wearing a blue and white outfit from his TNA Wrestling days. John Cena received a massive reaction from the fans as soon as his music hit. After Alicia Taylor did the announcements for John Cena, Cena handed her a note with a special introduction for AJ Styles which referenced his time as the face of TNA Wrestling and his run with the Bullet Club. Before the bell rang the fans chanted “holy s***.”
After a few minutes Cena connected with an Attitude Adjustment for a two count then followed up with the Skull Crushing Finale for another two count. AJ tried for the Styles Clash, but Cena reversed it into the STF. Styles slipped out of it then locked Cena into a crossface. Cena rolled him over and paid tribute to Rusev when he applied The Accolade. Styles then paid tribute to Samoa Joe when he put Cena in the Coquina Clutch. John Cena rolled out of it and put Styles in the Walls of Jericho as the fans chanted “Y2J.” They continued to trade holds as Styles locked in the Calf Crusher. Cena got out of it and applied the STF again.
AJ Styles got out of the hold and connected with the Styles Clash for a two count. AJ went for the Phenomenal Forearm, but Cena caught him and hit Styles with Sister Abigail. The fans then lit up the arena with their phones to pay tribute to Bray Wyatt.
Styles put Cena down with Angel’s Wings as a tribute to Christopher Daniels for a two count. Cena tried for a Pedigree but Styles blocked it and hit Cena with Deadeye. John Cena followed up with a middle rope DDT as a nod to Randy Orton. He then called for the RKO as he started pounding on the mat. Cena connected with the RKO for a two count.
John Cena tried for the punt and AJ dodged it. AJ hit John Cena with the Attitude Adjustment and Cena kicked out. Styles tried for the Five Knuckle Shuffle, but Cena countered with a chokeslam. The fans chanted “619” and Cena attempted it as Styles countered with a clothesline.
AJ connected with a springboard 450. Styles then started tuning up the band in the corner. He hit Sweet Chin Music and Cena kicked out. AJ finally landed the Phenomenal Foream and Cena kicked out again.
The fans started chanting “YES.” Cena tried for the AA again, but Styles got out of it. Cena quickly picked AJ up again and connected with the AA, but Styles kicked out.
John Cena placed AJ Styles on the top turnbuckle for an Avalanche Attitude Adjustment. Styles fought out of it and knocked him off. Styles went for a crossbody and Cena rolled through then connected with a Tombstone. He picked Styles back up for the AA and pinned him to win the match.
