You never know who might show up on NXT programming nowadays as Jordynne Grace recently crossed over when she challenged Roxanne Perez for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT Battleground earlier this month.
Trick Williams successfully defended his NXT Championship against Ethan Page at Battleground, and last week Cody Rhodes announced that a battle royal would be held to determine Trick’s next challenger. The American Nightmare also teased that anyone could show up.
Leading up to the battle royal there was a lot of speculation regarding Joe Hendry possibly entering the battle royal, and the Total Nonstop Action star did indeed appear. Hendry got a big reaction from the fans in attendance and he cut a promo declaring that he was going to win the battle royal then go on to capture the NXT Championship. Unfortunately for Hendry he was eliminated from the battle royal in under two minutes.
The fans made it clear that there weren’t happy about the quick elimination as they chanted “bulls***” after Hendry was taken out of the match. It’s possible that we may not have seen the last of Joe Hendry on WWE programming as he confronted Shawn Michaels after he was eliminated from the battle royal and teased that he could show up on any show moving forward.
In the end the battle royal came down to Je’Von Evans and Shawn Spears, and it was Je’Von Evans who eliminated Spears to earn a shot at the NXT Championship.
