Samoa Joe is a veteran of the professional wrestling industry and fans have been waiting a long time to see him debut on the WWE main roster. Earlier this week Joe finally made his debut when he attacked Seth Rollins as Seth was making his way to the ring to confront Triple H.
Joe debuted in a big way and the segment established him as a force to be reckoned with in the WWE. The former NXT Champion showed some serious aggression and WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross noted in a recent blog on JrsBBQ.com that for him Joe’s debut was the highlight of Raw.
“Highlight of Monday Night RAW for me was the show ending debut of Samoa Joe who violently took out Seth Rollins who was coming to the ring to confront HHH. Joe was aggressive as hell and I loved it and it certainly suspended my disbelief in a memorable way.”
It appears that the segment was only the beginning of a feud between Rollins and Joe, but unfortunately Seth Rollins re-injured his knee during the altercation, so that feud will have to be put on hold for now.
It’s been rumored for weeks now that WWE plans to give Joe a big push and judging from the way he debuted those rumors appear to be accurate. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Samoa Joe, but Jim Ross himself seems to think that Joe would make a good opponent for the one and only Brock Lesnar.
“Joe was a surprise guest of mine at our RINGSIDE Show in San Jose WM31 weekend and he was fabulous. He’s got great verbal skills if allowed to be himself. I said then and I still believe it today that Joe is as well suited to face Brock Lesnar at a future, major WWE event as anyone on the entire roster, IMO. Would it be a booking crime to pencil in a Joe-Brock Wrestlemania main event for NOLA Wrestlemania in 2018?”
It’s hard to argue with Jim Ross on this one. Wrestlers on the WWE roster who are legitimate threats to Brock Lesnar are few and far between, but Joe appears to be a credible opponent at this point.
Over the past few years Brock Lesnar has only been beaten a few times and the matches where he has taken a loss have done absolutely nothing in terms of building new stars. Although Samoa Joe is a veteran, there’s still a lot that could be done to turn him into a household name now that he’s on the main roster and a victory over Brock Lesnar could do a lot for his career.
Brock Lesnar is one of a kind, but eventually WWE will need another special attraction similar to Lesnar, which means whoever ends up in that spot will likely need a victory over Lesnar to establish themselves as such.
