You never know what can happen in WWE and now you can add MMA to that time-honored phrase as well. Jon “Bones” Jones defeated Daniel Cromier at UFC 124 and afterward threw out a pretty strong challenge to Brock Lesnar.
There have been rumors of Brock re-entering the USADA testing pool to lay the ground work for a return to the Octagon. Jones and Lesnar both said they want to fight each other so we’ll just see if that actually happens.
Jim Ross theorized on his blog a Lesnar vs Jones fight would do upwards of one million PPV buys which is huge. He also said he didn’t see any possibility of driving a wedge between Lesnar and WWE if this fight did happen because Brock’s worth so much to the WWE at this point. It’s also never a bad idea to keep yourself in the public eye and that’s exactly what taking a fight like this against Jones would do.
But Ross revealed a very interesting tidbit when mentioned something he’s been hearing “from the streets” concerning Jon Jones’ interest in coming in to WWE for a little bit of money.
“Ironically, word on the street is that Jones is also interested in a WWE payday some day in the future which adds some irony to the Bones-Brock UFC scenario.”
Ross went on to put modern-day athletes over for being so business savvy about these matters.
“Athletes are arguably smarter today than ever before and they realize that these massive paydays are not going to last forever plus the fact that no one ever has “enough money” contrary to public sentiment from those who actually don’t have enough money.”
But in the end, it all comes down to a fight between Jones and Lesnar and how JR speculated Brock would do against someone like Jon.
“Bones hand speed and reach will be problematic for Lesnar when they do tangle as Brock’s striking defense will have to be spot on if the bigger grappler has any chance of winning on his way to a fully stocked pay window.”
