Nowadays fans have a lot to choose from when it comes to which professional wrestling promotion they want to watch, but back in the day during the Monday Night Wars everyone was talking about WWE vs. WCW.
However, the Monday Night Wars came to an end when WWE purchased WCW in 2001, and months later fans got to see the invasion angle. The invasion storyline has been heavily criticized over the years for lacking star power, and recently on Grilling JR Hall of Famer Jim Ross talked about the acquisition.
According to Jim Ross there were a number of stars Vince McMahon was interested in, but Goldberg seemed to be at the top of the list.
“He was very interested in Goldberg. I don’t think he was not interested in any of those stars like Flair, Hogan, Sting, Nash, Scott Hall, he was just more invested in some others than not.
“If I had to say one guy, for me the one guy would’ve been Sting followed by Goldberg, for Vince it was Goldberg then Sting later on. I’m assuming this is somewhat accurate.”
Jim Ross went on to say that after WWE found out many of the WCW stars were under guaranteed contracts that forced the company to make changes to their plans.
“Here’s a bunch of guys that we’re going to bring and we know their motivation is to get a job to get paid. How many of them really want to be here? How many of them aren’t burnt out? How many of them are ready to regroup, hit the restart button.”
