Jim Ross is a WWE Hall Of Famer and has carved out a place in the hearts of fans all around the world. People look up to JR and consider him in a league of his own when it comes to commentary.
But Jim Ross is still human. He’s capable of going through his own trials and tribulations just like the rest of us. He recently lost his wife Jan in a tragic accident but he still perseveres.
He recently spoke to the A.V Club and really opened up about some of the things fans can expect from his upcoming autobiography, “Slobberknocker My Life In Wrestling.”
“You’re going to hear about my addiction to drugs. I haven’t talked about that ever. I was addicted to Ambien and Xanax together with Crowd Royal. I was on Uranus, and Pluto, and Neptune, and everywhere else late at night. I had severe sleep apnea… I still do. I stopped breathing ninety-nine times in an hour in a sleep test. So I wasn’t in real great shape with that deal and that was during my WWE years. I didn’t sleep much so when I did need to sleep I needed to drug myself to get to sleep.”
Ross said he searched for Ambien online and discovered the drug was supposed to help with insomnia on a temporary basis and not for ten years. Once he saw this he made the decision to quit. He equated it to when he stopped smoking cigarettes as he just decided one day to quit smoking and he did.
It’s great Jim Ross was able to overcome this situation because it could have gotten much worse. Many people have fallen victim to the same kind of addiction. Now fans still get to hear JR’s voice on the WWE United Kingdom and Mae Young Classic broadcasts. Hopefully, at this rate, Good ol’ JR will be around for years to come.
