Jim Ross had a hand in bringing Jack Swagger in to World Wrestling Entertainment in 2006 and, although he did have some success he plateaued rather quickly. Swagger won the 2010 Money In The Bank Match and went on to become a WWE World Heavyweight Champion as well as an ECW and United States Champion. His “We the People” gimmick was really over for a while as WWE paired him with professional wrestling mastermind Zeb Colter, however as soon as Swagger got legs under him WWE never let him really run.
Good Ol’ JR commented about Swagger’s release in the latest issue of his blog:
“WWE announced that it has released fellow Oklahoman Jack Swagger from his WWE contract. The former Oklahoma Sooner All American Wrestler won’t have any issues getting booked. Seems like it would be strategic for Impact Wrestling would jump on the former WWE Champion when he’s legally able to appear on their TV. Swagger would also be a great addition to the NJPW roster or perhaps even ROH. I wish the former Sooner nothing but the best.”
Obviously JR isn’t worried Swagger will have any trouble finding work now that he’s separated from WWE. He already had to cancel one WAW show in England, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see him pop up on Impact Wrestling or New Japan either. He’s a great talent with plenty of life ahead of him.
Who knows if he’ll eventually make his way back to WWE one day, because in time absence could always make Vince’s heart grow fonder and cause him to miss the All American American.
